About...
The Ministry of Education and Training has set up EduNet, an educational value-added portal. This follows a presidential decision to link Tunisian elementary and secondary schools to the Internet.
EduNet provides its users with a variety of Web services such as general educational information, e-learning modules, hosting, e-mail, downloading, databases and collaborative work platforms. It ensures secure access, user authentification and protection of sites against virus attacks.
Services provided by EduNet
The connection of schools to EduNet allows users to benefit from several services such
as :
Navigation in sites offering educational resources.
Sharing information on didactic softwares as well as digitalised contents.
Importing didactic materials for the development of learning activities integrating ICT.
Training and auto-training in ICT integration in educational practices.
The contribution of teachers and pedagogical personnel in the production of pedagogical digitalized documents to publish on the Internet and the
intranet.
Promoting the culture of communication and collaboration.

ICT Training
Targeted objectives:
- Training teachers in ICT
- Supporting their endeavours to make use of computing tools

Collaborative spaces

Content development:
The contents of this heading come from two sources: INBMI personnel and users of the school networks. In the first case, information is produced locally before being published. They are deposited on a Web server. In the second case, they are collected by the means of collaborative softwares made by the INBMI, in particular forums and distributed data bases.
Authority ensuring validation : Each user is responsible for the information which s/he submits to the forum. It belongs to the INBMI, more particularly to the manager of the forum, to withdraw the postings considered to be irrelevant. According to the expressed needs and defined priorities, the personnel of the INBMI is able to quickly set up new forums either on particular themes or intended to support telework for groups of users who would express this need.
Linguistic review:
A copy of EduNet is submitted to the people in charge of quality control for linguistic review. This procedure is renewed for each update of the site.
- Disciplinary networks

Content development:
This heading is probably the most visited item on EduNet. It is the spear of the computer-assisted teaching in Tunisia. Members of the different networks work on adding contents to the disciplinary sites.
Authority ensuring validation:
Regional committees, headed by duly-trained inspectors, are set up to be in charge of this task.

Targeted objectives:
- To encourage the openness on the external world.
- To provide links to the most widespread global school networks and educational sites;
Content development:
Relevant data on these networks is collected by INBMI developpers, educators and EduNet users.
Authority ensuring validation:
The personnel of the INBMI will validate the relevance of the suggested sites to the Tunisian curricula and will make them available, in consultation mode, through a data base on our site.

School websites
Targeted objectives:
- To make Tunisian schools visible on the Internet;
- To publish and share data on the teaching practices in Tunisian schools.
A Web Hosting Charter is made available to provide school site creators with information about the current standards in Webpage design to comply with and the technical possibilities provided to host their work.
An evaluation grid is provided in order to guide the teachers in the realization of a site. It offers hints on web ergonomics, navigation, interactivity, technical aspects, content and pedagogical aspects.
Content development:
Contents should be displayed in a user-friendly fashion. Pre-definite fields should be included in every school site mainly:
- Physical references (name; headmaster/headmistress; gouvernorate; region etc...);
- Information ( about the school, its programmes, its history, clubs, etc...);
- Communication ( suggestions/advice to parents, official notices, etc...);
- Statistics ( exam results, class pyramids, staff etc...);
- Perspectives (special educational projects, distinctive elements, etc...);
- Club activities (socio-cultural activities, trips, etc...)
Authority ensuring validation:
The INBMI regional departments validate data coming from schools before tranferring them to the INBMI central headquarters.
- Cultural activities
Targeted objectives:
- To inform the educational community about the relevant events which take place in Tunisia;
- To set up project-based activities through the network.
Proposed headings:
This space provides users with documentary resources on the Internet making it possible for the participants to be trained in ICT and to collaborate for the creation of projects between the various regions of the country.
- Cultural activities in preparatory and secondary schools:
- Some resources in the following fields of animation are proposed: social sciences, fine arts, entertainment and cultural exchanges.

In order to direct participants to create collaborative cultural spaces, links to cultural experiments on the Internet are made available in the following modules:

- To encourage teachers and pupils to use the Internet in order to take advantage of the available documentary resources online;
- To encourage teachers and pupils to create regional, national and international collaborative spaces of common interests;

The contents of this heading is a reflection of the activities and regional, national and international contests carried out on the Internet.

Regional, national and international committees of validation will validate the relevance of the data and will award the best achievements.
- Collaborative space
Targeted objectives:
- To reinforce motivation;
- To have access to the most recent research results and to information by exchange;
- To promote autonomous training;
- To foster an inter-disciplinary approach;
- To favor problem-solving approach;
- To improve pedagogical approaches through exchange;
- To enhance and value individual or group research;

Content development:
The National Institute of Bureautics and Computing will entitle the executive teachers to have two types of forums at their disposal:
- One forum is restricted to a number of users who are chosen according to their skills and/or to their interest in a particular subject.
- The second forum is accessible to all; however, the quality and relevance of the postings are ensured by a moderator. The questions and responses are deposited in a virtual environment to which only the moderator has access. The latter selects the questions that t are likely to interest the users of this forum and then makes them available to all.
Authority ensuring the validation:
Content validation will be carried out by people in charge of the forum. They could be inspectors, INBMI personnel or any other person agreed upon by the Institute.
